About Jennifer Scorniaenchi

Hey Ladies,

My name is Jennifer Scorniaenchi and I am proud to be part of the Booty Camp team! My educational background plays a big role in the person and instructor I am today. I earned a B.A in Psychology from Purdue University and a B.A in Communication Studies from Indiana University. Throughout my five years of undergraduate studies, I took several sport psychology courses as well as nutrition courses. After graduating, I decided to pursue a M.S in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Michigan State University. There, I am continuing to take, several physiology, anatomy, and of course sport and exercise psychology courses. Along with my educational background, I am currently working towards a certificate as a personal training specialist through Can-Fit Pro.

It's a Lifestyle

My fitness success story is surviving four years of division 1 soccer in the U.S. Although always a soccer player, and always wanting a scholarship, when the opportunity finally arrived, I was terrified! After my first day of fitness testing and two-a-days I wondered if I’d ever survive one year, let alone four! I made it a personal goal to get through every day and to do my best. I never EVER knew I was capable of what I was, and never thought I could push myself beyond the limits that I did. I managed to play in almost every game in the four years I was eligible, eventually earning a starting position in just my second year.

Fitness, to me, is not just a job, it's a lifestyle. In order to be our best selves we have to treat ourselves well. A large part of that means maintaining our health and feeling good- inside and out! I have an infectious passion for women's fitness that I believe others can feel when they are around me. In my perfect world the pressures put on women to look a certain way would NOT exist. The world would be one that would promote health as our fitness goals, not being a certain size. It is because of these lofty hopes that I am so passionate about women's fitness. I want women to not only feel their best but I want to help women accept the body they have and learn to love it and work with it. Self-confidence is something woman should use as their weapon not their roadblock, and I believe that a healthy lifestyle needs to start from within each person. Women are the strongest creatures on this planet! We should respect our bodies just as we respect our loved ones, friends, etc... So often, women are taking care of everyone else around them that they don't stop to take care of themselves. Moreover, exercise can be intimidating to women and when a woman makes the step or the commitment to become a healthier person- it simply brings me joy. The perfect world I dream of- the one with women being told any healthy body is beautiful not matter what it's size- may not truly exist but when I am training or instructing a woman, it does.

Motivation, Excitement, and Fun!

I had never really thought about my "fitness philosophy" before. I could have written page after page but after much thought, here is what I narrowed it down to: The pure essence of sport and exercise is what drives me to instruct. The determination of an individual or a collection of individuals to go to battle with themselves in hopes of achieving a goal is an incredible force. I believe that the single most important objective of exercise is maintaining our bodies and becoming accustomed to a healthy lifestyle that can be enjoyable. Fun is another fundamental aspect of my philosophy. Hard work is well... hard! BUT it can and should be something that we enjoy. As much as I am an instructor, I am also there to foster motivation, excitement, and fun! I believe that a fitness routine should contain "purposive variety". By this I mean, exercise routines should change frequently but with a purpose behind each change such as muscle confusion.

Because of my educational background in interests, I strongly believe in the equal importance of both body and mind in regards to fitness. I believe it is my job to not only help others extend and push beyond their limits physically, but also mentally. I am dedicated to helping others understand the psychological barriers or distractions they encounter and what can be done to help overcome those barriers in order to achieve their goals. I am a big proponent of positive self-talk. Most of what we say we cannot do is not based on fact...it is based on what we tell ourselves we cannot do. To me, "I can't" really means "I won't". Sometimes things ARE just THAT hard! We might not think we can do it because we never have. The only acceptable answer is "I will try". As an instructor, I believe in leading by example, leading with care, and leading with knowledge. Sport and exercise open doors and give people an opportunity to express themselves physically. As an instructor I take pride in the opportunity to create an environment that nourishes a person’s abilities and goals and provides support and encouragement to them. Bringing out the best in people and providing a positive life experience is what drives me to instruct.

The reason I decided to become a Booty Camp instructor is because the companies goals for and beliefs about women's fitness are similar to my own. Booty Camp has no hidden agendas and its main goal is to help people get results. I am proud to be part of such a diverse team.

Outside of Booty Camp

My athletic hobbies obviously include soccer however; I also have a long history playing both field hockey and volleyball, and also as a competitive figure skater and dancer. Recently, my athletic hobbies include cardio kickboxing, pilates, and yoga. I enjoy being outdoors if at all possible and there's nothing like jumping in the pool for some crazy cardio!

Other than fitness, my life includes various other facets. I am a student working towards finishing my Masters of Science degree at Michigan State University. I hope to move to Toronto when I am done in hopes of pursuing my PhD in counseling psychology specializing in sport and exercise. As for my future career goals... the possibilities are endless! When I am not at school, I am usually home for some big family event. I come from a large Italian family whom I spend a lot of time with. I also have a wonderful boyfriend Matt who puts up with my hectic lifestyle and whom I enjoy spending much of my time with. I enjoy simple things like watching movies, attending concerts, going to dinner, and more than anything, sitting around and laughing with my friends.
