My name is Sandy Cordeiro and I started my journey with Booty Camp Fitness as a recruit! Trust me when I say that you’re in the right place, whether you’re looking for a workout that will help you shed the pounds, create lean muscles, build strength and confidence, or just get you to de-stress and have a good time. This isn’t your typical boot camp (no yelling here!). I can’t wait to meet you in beautiful Port Credit!
Want to know a bit more about me? I’m a York University graduate who majored in Professional Writing and am certified as both a Can-Fit-Pro Fitness Instructor Specialist and a cardio kickboxing instructor though Turbo Kick. And let’s not forget the fact that I’m a two-time Booty Camp graduate!
While I’m a Booty Camp Elite Drill Instructor by night, I’m a food editor at a cooking, nutrition and health magazine by day. In an office filled with fitness- and health-conscious people, a kitchen filled with almond butter and quinoa, and an office always abuzz with chatter concerning the best moves to tone your middle, you can’t help but have a love for all things food and fitness seep into your own life. Pre-2007, I was a thin woman who worked out in spurts throughout the year, and usually those spurts coincided with bikini season, New Year’s resolution time or my birthday. I was the girl in the gym (when I went to the gym!) who picked up the lightest weights, afraid to bulk up. But now I’m not afraid to really push my muscles! Plus, I’ve incorporated plyometrics, sports drills, yoga and a ton of resistance training into my routine. I’ve learned that intensity and variety in your workouts, along with an effort to make fitness a part of your daily routine (just like brushing your teeth!), is what you really need to promote change and live a fit lifestyle.
If I’m going to take the hour to work out, I want to get the most out of that time – I want to get my butt kicked! That’s where Booty Camp comes in. After my first session, I could see that this wasn’t your average fitness class. In a class filled with women of varying shapes, sizes and fitness levels, everyone was getting through, sweating buckets and leaving with a satisfied smile on their faces. Plus, with ladders, cones, circuit training, partner work and sports drills, workout boredom is kept at bay! And as time passed I started to see how Booty Camp changed my body. Following my first eight-week session, I lost five percent body fat! For the first time in my life, I had the body mass of an athlete (and for someone who spent most of their life dodging and running from balls as they came at them, “athlete” is an amazing label, no matter how it’s applied!). That’s why I wanted to work for Booty Camp: I want to help other women feel strong, to see what they’re body can do and how much they can improve if they put in the work. Because there are few things better than that day when you really see how well you’ve improved – when you get through all of Booty Camp’s squats or opt to do a few pushups on your toes. Because after years of viewing being thin as the ideal, I’ve realized that strong and healthy feels so much better than skinny.
I also am always hitting the gym, lifting weights, punching and kicking my way through cardio kickboxing routines, and sweating in spinning class. And when I’m not getting a workout in, you can find me in the kitchen, reading a good book, pouring through one of my dozen magazines of the moment, laughing with family and friends or scouring the shelves at Chapters (I love the smell of a brand new book. What? I’m sure I’m not the only one!).
