Hey Ladies,
I graduated from Acadia University with a BSc, specializing in Exercise Physiology. I am a Certified Exercise Physiologist, through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, I hold my National Life Saving certificate and have five years experience as a fitness trainer for the Canadian Forces. I currently teach and train the officer cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada.
I think I have many fitness success stories, all pivotal to each phase of my life. My largest feats have been training for my first triathlon (the first one is the most intimidating), completing a 30 day Outward Bound mountaineering course (including a 3 day solo in the BC Mountains) and, most recently, my use of training to combat the post-partum baby blues. The birth of my son enabled me to realize that when I put my health and fitness first, I am able to be the best for everyone else who needs me.
I have learned firsthand that women feel selfish when they make time for themselves a priority. However, I have also learned firsthand that exercise, wise nutrition and a healthy lifestyle make me a happier and less stressed person and a better mother/ wife/ friend. It is my passion to bring this realization to other women.
Fitness is not a choice; it is a way of life. Fitness is not simply lifting heavy weights, or running long distances, it is also about making smart decisions about what you feed your body. Above all, fitness is the example I want to be for my children, it is a way I connect with my spouse, it is what I choose as a livelihood and it is vital for a long and enjoyable life.
I think the Booty Camp philosophy makes exercise less intimidating for women who are otherwise intimidated of physical training. It fosters success and that’s something I want to be a part of.
I am most interested in individual sports and I am always keen to learn how different training protocols achieve results. I most often spend my “fitness time” trying to get my 5km time down (21min, four months after my son was born… that was a great milestone for me), triathlon training and increasing my push-up ability.
I love spending time with my family, swimming and (here’s my completely unrelated career dream) studying interior design. If someone approached me with the choice to do any job, that does not involve physical training I’d want to work as a designer for Sarah Richardson and her Design Inc firm.
