My name is Kathy Ross and I can't wait to meet all my fabulous Kanata recruits!
I am CanFitPro certified as a Personal Trainer Specialist as well as up to date on all my first aid training. Additionally, I have a Commerce degree from Dalhousie University with a concentration in Marketing Management.
I am always looking for new workout styles, healthy & quick recipes and analyzing new fitness trends. I will continue to do this for my recruits to ensure our "routine" is far from a chore and provides the desired results for everyone!
I was always active and interested in fitness when I was younger and I loved being outside. In the summer I would spend most of my day's rollerblading around town and when I wasn't rollerblading I was participating in equestrian style show jumping. As I got older, we moved to another country and my fitness lagged behind. I started looking at fitness as a chore, I still went to the gym but it was sporadic (at best). University didn't help matters, I was living in a city full of bars and pub food – and I indulged. When I moved back to Ottawa I vowed to get into better shape, but the sporadic gym phases never really changed my outlook on fitness. It wasn't until I joined Booty Camp three years ago that I got the workout intensity and accountability I was looking for. I needed my instructor to take attendance and to expect me to show up every Tuesday and Thursday night. My journey into fitness snowballed from there!
After joining Booty Camp, I gained confidence in my strength and what my body was actually capable of. I decided to start running as well, and from there have competed in a number of races ranging from 5k to a half marathon (January in Ottawa, no less!), I have also competed in two Spartan Sprints (hello, barbed wire). Of course my daily routine is also supplemented by my two very high energy and active furry fitness buddies, in the warmer months we all try for a weekly 18km walk – want to tire out your dogs? Try an 18km walk! Fitness is now a huge part of my life and I can't imagine going back to a sedentary lifestyle.
Instructing at Booty Camp is something I have been very interested in based on how the program turned around my own attitude of personal fitness. I am very much looking forward to working with a dedicated group of women who are looking for fun, encouragement and a high energy intense workout that will keep interest and push everyone to their ultimate goals (regardless of fitness level or how lofty your goals may seem, I will help you through your journey).
My day job is decidedly different from my Booty Camp life, I work full-time in proposal development for a professional services firm and spend the majority of my day parked at a desk, indoors. I try and balance this indoor work time by getting outside and active whenever I can (rain, snow, sleet or more preferably, sun!). On top of my daily fitness routine (running, fitness classes, dog walks), I enjoy "unique" activities such as winter running, Spartan Races, white-water rafting and active adventure travel. The bottom-line: I get bored very easily so I am always trying new challenges and workouts to counteract this and I will continue to make things interesting for all my recruits, no one will ever be bored on my watch!
