My name is Melissa Kois and I’m your Booty Camp Fitness Drill Instructor for Etobicoke North!
My current certifications are as follows (I’m hoping to add more as my fitness career evolves);
Exclusively health and fitness came to an intersect for me once I hit University. I always remained active through fitness and athletics but school, social life, work and stress got the better of me. In my fourth year I experienced a tragic loss that hit me in a way I never expected. Losing control of my body was something I had never in a million years thought would happen to me…but it did. Regaining the strength to address the issues became not just a mental task but a physical one. Exploring different forms of mental health through fitness including meditation, yoga, pilates and running slowly became the salvation my body and mind needed. As I continued to work through these clashing issues I began falling in love with fitness because of its mental health benefits. Over the last few years I’ve tried a number of different physical activities…then came BOOTY CAMP FITNESS. I should have probably mentioned; I was a recruit now turned instructor! This program combines the most fantastic essence of physical fitness and mental health I have yet to discover. Becoming an instructor was naturally my next step in continuing down the path of fitness exploration! Working with fantastic women, like you, who may have gone down a similar path to mine, or need the team environment to push you or want that rockin’ summer body is why I’m here and why I’m so excited to be your Etobicoke north instructor! Fitness has provided me the endorphins to enjoy each and every day to its fullest, treat my body like the temple that it is and manage stress and anxiety better than ever before. Outside of fitness, which I feel like doesn’t make sense because I believe fitness and wellness is a lifestyle, I am a sales and marketing executive for a production firm specializing in design and print marketing. I have amazing, diverse clients that challenge me every day…which by now, I’m sure you can tell, I welcome! I have a double honours degree in Environmental Studies and Global Studies with a minor in Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University as well a post graduate certificate in Corporate Communications from Humber College. I spent the first 4-years after university working for a handful of not for profit organizations and municipal governments in the environment sector. Amazing work, but I needed a change, hence how I got to where I am now!
To say I’m an avid traveler would be downplaying my true passion. At 18-years old I packed up my life and moved to Italy for a year to work and travel. In addition I’ve road tripped most of the USA, island hopped between the Dominican, Bahama’s and Mexico (ok, not an island), explored the mighty east and west of Canada’s beautiful country and explored the Baja peninsula. My goal is to experience every country in the world before I die!
When I’m not working, exercising or travelling you can usually find me cooking up a storm and chilling out with my family and/or friends. I love exploring nature, beach living, drinking wine and a good Italian made pizza! Surprisingly I hate chocolate...but I think it’s because my mum ate one too many chocolate donuts while pregnant with me (or so the story goes lol).
Otherwise, you’ll have to come out to Etobicoke North to really get a feel for who I am! Can’t wait to meet all you fabulous ladies!
