Hey Ladies,
I first went into university thinking of Nutrition. I took a couple years of nutrition and decided that I did not want to be a dietitian full-time. I love nutrition and teaching people about nutrition but there was something missing. I decided to take some Kinesiology classes and feel in LOVE with them! I then transferred into Kinesiology and got my B Sc in Kinesiology with a nutrition and sociology minor. I decided to get two minors because I already had my nutrition minor but I also loved sociology. People are my PASSION! I THRIVE when I'm around people! As well as getting my degree, I also got certified by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology as a certified personal trainer (CPT). I am also going for my CEP (Certified Exercise Physiologist) at end of this year! I am also a certified group land instructor, spin instructor, and aquafit instructor through the YMCA.
I teach both co-ed and women fitness classes but I LOVE teaching women's fitness more! I can relate more to women on how they feel and what they think. I know the areas in which most women struggle in their body. I also LOVE how you can put a group of women in a room (or outside!) and within 10 minutes, everyone is friends! The support and the encouragement is amazing with women! I LOVE teaching booty boot camp classes because it truly gives women the results they want! I see lots of women that come into the gym and they hardly work out. They then wonder why they are not getting the results.
The biggest thing I like to teach people is that fitness is a lifestyle and not a part-time job! Even the smallest little changes all add up! Eating healthy foods, watching your portion size, being active, walking instead of driving or even taking the stairs instead of the elevator all add up! Most people need a little push! That’s why Booty camp fitness is AWESOME because twice a week you get the encouragement and support that you need to stay active! If you are only active some of the time or only eat healthy occasionally, you are not living a fitness lifestyle! I especially love doing outdoor boot camps because in Saskatchewan, it’s only warm a few months out of the whole year! Doing boot camps outside lets you enjoy the sunshine, breath in fresh air and feel AMAZING after the workout!
I LOVE to run! I did cross-country and track all through elementary school and high school. I was always more of a long distance runner. I have ran 5 10kms and I am running my first half in August 2009! I also love playing any kind of sport! In the winter I play squash and any other sport I can get my hands on! In the summer I play beach volleyball and any other outside sport! I am not afraid to try any sport, even if I am the worst at it! Haha!
My career right now is as the Director of Health, Fitness and Recreation at the YMCA of Saskatoon. So my career is ALL about fitness! I teach all of the classes at YMCA, as well as personal train. All the high schools in Saskatoon come take classes from me during their phys ed classes. For fun outside of work, I love running, playing sports, horseback riding, dancing and just having fun! I always try to live everyday like my last and get as much out of the day as I can! I also value family and friends a lot.
