I love encouraging people to do things they haven't done before. My challenge is when people say "I can't", and it immediately becomes our goal to make it happen. Women need to know that they are important, and it is okay to take that time in the day to nurture your body. You only get one, so take care of it, make it strong, and love yourself.
I have had a love for fitness ever since I was a teenager. I took my first weight training course at the age of 14 so I could go to the gym afterschool. My goal was to be able to do one chin-up. Ten years later, I am able to motivate other women to set and achieve their goals. I am a graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelors of Commerce degree. I also have a current Can-fit Pro Personal Trainer Specialist, CPR & First Aid Level C, Community Sport Initiation Certificate, Level 2 Fitness Kickboxing Certification, and I am a Boot Camp University Graduate.
I want inspire women to meet their fitness goals! I like coaching, being outside, and to add a fitness flare to it just makes it all the better. I want to work together as a team in an environment where everyone's success is important. I find working outside a gym environment is more stimulating and challenging.
My favorite moment was when one lady I had been working with flagged me down at the gym. She said "you with NEVER believe what I did today. I ran 18 minutes straight on the treadmill without stopping! I was so excited, but I had no one to tell that would appreciate it as much as you would!". When we started training we were only running for one minute at a time. I was so proud of her!
My favorite sports are Ringette, Hockey, and Horseback riding. I have played Ringette for over 20 years, and have had the opportunity to coach a junior girls' team as well. Recently I have also started playing hockey on a women's team, and I am slowly starting to see improvement!
A few years ago I competed in my first triathlon (with plans to compete in more). Other activities I have tried include ice climbing, caving, pilates, rock climbing, dirt biking, and golfing.
Outside of fitness I spend most of my time training horses, giving horseback riding lessons, and training with my kickboxing instructor. I love to read (my favorite book is The Time Travelers Wife), and I have been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling. My last trip was to South America, where we were able to hike the Inca Trail, go to the Galapagos, and spend time in the Amazon. Our next trip will be to Costa Rica for my honeymoon this year. I am also a huge NHL fan, and love to watch the Flames and Blackhawks!
