Hey Ladies,
My name is Tanya O’Connor and I am super pumped about being a part of the Booty Camp team as an Instructor for Carlingwood/Woodroffe area. I have my Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Criminology with a concentration in Sociology and started working in the fitness industry as a Women’s Only Club General Manager for the largest fitness company in the city in 2005. I have always been interested in my own health and fitness goals but as a result of working for this company my passion for health and fitness was magnified! Working in a Women’s Only environment was one of the most inspiring work environments I could have imagined.
At the end of 2008 I started my journey of becoming a Certified Personal Trainer Specialist with Can-Fit Pro and since then I have completed my Holistic Lifestyle Coach level 1 and Program Design with the C.H.E.K institute.
My fitness success story is one that is on going. I started out working with a personal trainer 3 times a week after gaining a lot of weight due to the stressful work environment that I was in. I felt that I needed someone to help me do this properly, provide additional motivation, and accountability to drive me to my goals. I started seeing amazing results with my work out program and following a proper nutrition plan. I went from 180lbs down to 149lbs with my lowest body fat percentage EVER! After reaching this goal I thought I was on top of the world. A few months after reaching this goal I continued working out and eating right and slowly started gaining weight. The weight came on slowly and I didn’t really notice anything as my life, just like everyone else’s, was crazy. My pants started fitting tight again and I was losing a lot of hair. I went for my annual physical, which included blood work, and was diagnosed with a Hypothyroid. My thyroid became under active and started affecting my metabolism. I lost motivation and what I felt was my perfect body. Since learning about my condition, I am on thyroid medication and my success story has started over again. I have a game plan and a renewed sense of power. My energy levels are coming back allowing me to work out regularly, and my body is regaining the shape that had slowly disappeared. Through this experience I have realized that there will be valuable lessons along your journey and it’s your attitude and perseverance that determines your success.
I know how hard it is to lose weight and to keep it off. I also know how hard we all work and it doesn’t seem like enough. I know we are constantly bombarded by gimmicks and the quick fixes but I also want all women to know that just like everything else in life- Health and Fitness doesn’t come without hard work. My passion lies in the fact that I had great support going through my health and fitness journey and I want and will be there for your health and fitness journey!
My personal philosophy on fitness is that you need to make a conscious effort to live in the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you work hard and stay on track to your goals and 20% of the time you can allow yourself a little fun. You will get discouraged and frustrated if you can’t lead a normal life and this is how you make your health and fitness goals sustainable!
I want to become a Booty Camp instructor because there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone have an “Ah Ha” moment with their work outs and reach their potential. Just knowing that you had a role to play in the process is shear perfection.
I have played soccer since the age of 8 and played at the competitive level from the age of 10. I love working out as well as taking my dog outside for walks in the park.
For fun I play soccer, walk my dog and spend time with my boyfriend and our families. As a career I presently work for a Physiotherapy Company in 3 roles (Physiotherapist Assistant, Forever Young Senior Fitness Instructor, and I am an Orthotic Clinician.) I enjoy reading about health and fitness and I plan to continue my fitness education by completing my Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 2 as well as continue my Personal Training Certifications.
